Garner Willis Taylor papers, ca. 1900-1950s

Collection includes correspondence (1909-1946 and some undated); score books from major and minor professional, amateur, collegiate and high school baseball games (1919-1952); diaries giving dates of travel and games (1936-1946); two scrapbooks of clippings covering Taylor's high school days in Wichita and early career (1902-1925); reference files on a variety of sports and other miscellaneous topics; miscellaneous documents including "The Saga of the Cowles family" by George Brandenburg and a bank passbook for the Iowa Sports War Relief Fund (1942-43); and ephemera including golf scorecards; programs from several Des Moines clubs; and programs for a 1912 Western League baseball game played in Des Moines and a 1912 Hankinson auto polo match at Madison Square Garden. The collection includes some documentation of corruption in professional sports (especially boxing and wrestling) as well as information on wrestler Frank Gotch.
